Drug Uses
Carafate is used for curing and prevention of ulcers. It can also be used for other conditions as advised by your physician.
How Taken
Take Carafate as prescribed by your doctor. Take Carafate on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Don't use an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking this pill. It can take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not take Carafate at the same time as other drugs. Take Carafate at least 2 hours after other pills. If you are not sure about the best time to use Carafate, talk to your physician or pharmacist.
Additional Information
Carafate may cause dizziness. These effects can worsen if Carafate is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Carafate with caution. Don't drive or perform other possibly negative tasks until you know how you respond to this product. If your symptoms don't improve or if they worsen, ask your doctor. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been suggested. Don't use less or more or use it more often than suggested by your doctor.
