Drug Uses
Carafate is used for healing and prevention of ulcers. It can also be used for other situations as directed by your physician.
How Taken
Take Carafate as recommended by your physician. Take Carafate on an empty stomach at least one hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Don't take an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking this medicine. It may take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Don't take Carafate at the same time as other drugs. Take Carafate at least two hours after other medicines. If you are not sure about the best time to use Carafate, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
More Information
Carafate can cause dizziness. These effects can worsen if Carafate is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Take Carafate with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, visit your physician. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been recommended. Do not take less or more or use it more often than recommended by your doctor.
