Drug Uses
Carafate is used for treatment and prevention of ulcers. It may also be used for other conditions as suggested by your physician.
How Taken
Take Carafate as advised by your doctor. Use Carafate on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or twp hours after a meal. Do not use an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking this drug. It can take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not use Carafate at the same time as other pills. Take Carafate at least two hours after other drugs. If you are not sure about the best time to use Carafate, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
More Information
Carafate may cause dizziness. These effects may worsen if Carafate is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Take Carafate with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly negative tasks until you know how you respond to this product. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, ask your physician. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been recommended. Don't use less or more or use it more often than determined by your physician.
