Drug Uses
Carafate is used for curing and prevention of ulcers. It may also be used for other situations as determined by your doctor.
How Taken
Take Carafate as directed by your physician. Take Carafate on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or twp hours after a meal. Don't take an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking this pill. It can take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Don't use Carafate at the same time as other pills. Use Carafate at least 2 hours after other pills. If you are not sure about the best time to use Carafate, call to your physician or pharmacist.
More Information
Carafate may cause dizziness. These effects can worsen if Carafate is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Take Carafate with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly dangerous tasks until you know how you respond to this pill. If your symptoms don't improve or if they worsen, contact your physician. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Don't take less or more or use it more often than determined by your doctor.
